Mike Platz

With over 15 years of commercial banking experience Mike Platz serves Avenue Bank clients as a Commercial Relationship Manager. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Samford University, his Masters of Business Administration degree from UT Chattanooga and he is a member of the 2012 class of the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. Mike is an alumnus of the Young Leaders Council, Leadership Dickson County and has served on several local not for profit boards and committees over the years. In his spare time Mike enjoys coaching his 5 year old daughter's soccer team, brushing up on his electric guitar, and smoking barbeque for family and friends. Mike, his wife Caroline and two children reside in Nashville.

Scott Newell

Scott Newell is a Concierge Banker at our Cool Springs branch. He comes to us from Oxford, where he attended the University of Mississippi and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Finance and Management. He joined the bank as Courier & Bank Support Specialist, and has prior banking experience as a teller. He was the General Manager of Varsity Grill in Oxford.

Scott is also an Eagle Scout which explains why he enjoys volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in his free time.

A payroll problem at my company this morning left me in a  serious limbo. I emailed Paul Vernich, my trusted banker and Asst VP and branch manager, and he was able to handle the problem for me (IN UNDER AN HOUR!). Where else on earth would an Asst VP at a bank handle your email personally in that short a time?

Seriously, if you are sick of the no service, we don't care about you only your account banks all over town, open an account at Avenue!

Brent is a Concierge Banker at our Cummins Station branch.  He comes to us with a background in the music and entertainment industry where he worked for a local record company for the past six years.  He has a B.A.  in Music Business from Belmont University and a B.S. in Finance from Miami University of Ohio.  Brent is a proud volunteer for Second Harvest Food Bank, the YMCA and Habitat for Humanity. Here is an email I just sent my banker there and his reply...(Me) Hey, Paul! I hope you are well! You guys aren't going to start charging fees like these other banks are you?

(Paul ) NO!  we are definitely staying away from that.  We are able to because of our asset size and our overall core values.  As you know, we also will not charge ATM fees anywhere in the world.  Thanks for asking though and feel free to spread the word to anyone that I might be able to save from the monthly fees.  Have a great one, Chad!

Ashley Hoskins

Ashley Hoskins is a Business Development Specialist on our Healthcare team. In Love With a Bank

I am blown away by how much I am in love with a bank! I mean really, you guys have taken me by surprise and it is really awesome to have a bank that you don't dread going to. Mallory really is fantastic at the West End location when she helped me set up my checking account yesterday! She said that I should receive my debit card in 2-3 days! Not Weeks!!!! Jason Dobbs

A Nashville native, Jason Dobbs is a Credit  Underwriter.   Prior to joining Avenue Bank in 2007 he served as Senior Auditor at a CPA firm.  Jason graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a B.A. in Accounting.  He serves on the UT Davidson County Alumni Board and was recently elected Treasurer of the Nashville State Community College Board of Trustees.  When Jason isn’t coaching his little league baseball team you will probably find him keeping himself busy outdoors kayaking, biking, or playing golf.

After being finally fed up with the service at (another well known bank, name removed), I overheard a conversation at the Post Office regarding great service at Avenue.  I checked them online and enrolled at the Cummins Station branch. Paul signed me up. Since then I have had several questions which he answers immediately on email.  I had to go to the Cool Springs branch yesterday and received perfect service there, too!  If you are not a million dollar client but want to be treated like one, this is the place for you!

Ron Samuels

Ron Samuels is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Vanderbilt University Owen School of Management. He serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank. Ron is very active in civic leadership, and served as the Chairman of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce 2008 - 2010. He serves on the boards of the Tennessee Bankers Association, Country Music Foundation, Nashville Alliance for Public Education, Nashville Entrepreneur Center, and The Golf Club of Tennessee. He previously held leadership roles on the board of the Adventure Science Center, Music City Convention Center Coalition, Nashville Sports Council, Music City Bowl and Center for Non-Profit Management.

He was named a "Leader In Banking Excellence" in 2009 for career and community contributions by the Tennessee Bankers Association and was honored to receive the "Leadership and Integrity Award" presented by the Dean Institute for Corporate Governance at Lipscomb University. Ron is an avid golfer and sports fan, and is married to wife Lynn, the Nashville area’s most fabulous real estate agent. He also plays guitar with the Avenue Bank Band, The Hummingbirds. The band won first place in the 2012 Music City Corporate Band Challenge.

Kent Cleaver

Kent Cleaver is a graduate of Lipscomb University and has worked in Nashville’s banking industry for more than 30 years. He serves as President and Chief Operating Officer for the Bank. He also serves on the bank’s Board of Directors. Kent is a graduate of the Leadership Middle Tennessee Class of 2010; he is a member of Lipscomb University’s Business Leadership Council, Executive Committee and Lipscomb University’s, College of Business, Board of Visitors. He is former Chairman of the Board for the Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity and remains active in that organization.
 
He is married to Stephanie and has two children. In addition to his passion for UT football, Kent remains an avid golfer and secretly dreams of making the Senior Tour (though he won’t admit it.)

Barb Zipperian

Barb Zipperian is a graduate of Ball State University and the Dale Carnegie School of Effective Speaking and Human Relations. A Certified Public Accountant, Barb serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Andy Moats

A native of Nashville, Andy Moats is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy and Vanderbilt University (B.S. in Economics). He joined Avenue Bank at conception in October of 2006 and brings more than 12-years of commercial banking experience with expertise in Real Estate, Music & Entertainment, and Commercial & Industrial Lending. Ron Cox

Born in Ohio, Ron Cox has called Middle Tennessee home for over 30 years. While he has over 20 years of banking experience and is a current member of the LSU Graduate School of Banking, Ron has an extensive background as a professional musician and songwriter, working with entertainers from Barbara Mandrell to Bob Hope and writing for Curb Publishing. He has served on various local community boards such as YMCA and United Way, and is currently a member of the CMA, AMA, and IBMA. a welcome change

Recently,  Santi Tefel at the West End branch called to tell me that my account was overdrawn. When I told Santi I didn't recognize the source of the charge responsible for the overdraft, he investigated the matter & determined that an insurance company unknown to me had made an unusual, but honest mistake, causing the problem in my account. I've got to say that not having to solve a problem myself, not getting charged an overdraft fee & being personally contacted with an offer of assistance is a very welcome change from my experience with other banks. A personal touch

Santi, Andrew, and the entire staff at the West End branch are always friendly and helpful.  Besides the personal service, one of the reasons I chose Avenue is for the ability to use ATMs worldwide without incurring withdrawal fees.  It is a huge advantage over other banks, and when problems arise abroad, personal attention is always given.  When I had a dispute with an ATM withdrawal in South America, Santi helped me to work through the process and recover my money.  Avenue provides a personal touch that I have not experienced with any other bank.

Awesome atmosphere!

Love the staff at the West End Branch! I went to open 3 new accounts and they were amazing! They all had a smile on their face and were truly there to help us with OUR banking needs. The Avenue Bank has an awesome atmosphere ....not like a normal stuffy bank where you feel like you have to talk quiet and hurry up so they can serve the next person! Luxury Expenditure Policy

Limitation on Luxury Expenditures Policy

September 29, 2009

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 requires that recipients of TARP investments develop a written policy placing certain limitations on what certain individuals or government agencies may deem to be luxury expenditures.  Avenue Bank (“bank”) and Avenue Financial Holdings, Inc. (“company”) prohibit excessive or luxury expenditures and events, officer or facility renovations, aviation or other transportation services or other activities or events that are not reasonable expenditures for conferences, staff development, reasonable performance incentives or in other similar measure conducted in the normal course of business operations.  This policy is not intended in any way to limit or restrict the normal and customary expenditures for business development, employee moral or training or the ongoing operation of the bank or the company.

Entertainment or Marketing Events; Conferences

Sponsorship of excessive entertainment or marketing events is prohibited.  Entertainment is considered to be any activity in which corporate funds are used for business development purposes relating to a current or prospective customer or to otherwise enhance the marketing efforts of the bank or the company.  This includes both foreign and domestic junkets that do not serve a demonstrated business purpose.  Occasional events such as taking customers or prospects on trips, playing golf, eating meals or taking them to other events that the customer/ prospect would find pleasurable is a necessary part of the marketing efforts and is not deemed as a “luxury” or a violation of this policy.  Excessive entertainment or an excessive event is quantitatively defined as any single occurrence or event where the per capita expenditure exceeds $2,000.  Conferences for staff or board members of the bank or the company are permitted if they are related to the financial services industry and have a direct correlation to the staff member’s job.  By way of example, the Sheshunoff CEO Roundtable, recognized trade association conferences, conventions and training, off-site planning meetings and off-site board of directors meetings are considered a normal part of the successful operation of the bank and the company and are not considered excessive events.

Office and Facility Renovations

Office and facility renovations should be designed to: enhance operational efficiency, comply with applicable fire codes and ADA requirements, maintain a safe, sanitary and clean working environment, enhance the public image of the organization, improve employee morale, or such other worthwhile purpose as may be identified by the organization.  Quantitatively office and facility renovations may be deemed excessive if the all in cost of the renovation exceeds $200 per square foot.  By way of example, relocating or adding to movable worker stations, improving the air flow or temperature, altering the wall, ceiling or lighting configuration of a work or storage space, establishing a new branch office or sales office are not considered excessive by their very nature.  Expenditures that management deems necessary to deal with emergency situations, such as an act of nature or expenditures necessary to make a facility operational for customer use are excluded from this policy.

Aviation or Other Transportation Services

Excessive aviation or other transportation services expenditures are prohibited.  The organization will not purchase or enter into a lease on any fixed wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, watercraft, rail car, or over the road vehicle with seating for eight or more individuals without prior board approval. 

Other Similar items, Activities or Events

Expenses for activities or events should enhance staff development, provide reasonable performance incentives for employees, or otherwise be conducted in the normal course of the operation of the business.  Local employee recognition/holiday parties are considered part of a regular employee appreciation process and are permitted.  Expenditures of this type may be made in the sole discretion or the chief executive officer, the president or their designated agent and are not considered excessive.

Lauren Peck

Lauren Peck is a Concierge Banker at the bank’s Green Hills Branch. She grew up in Brentwood, and is a 2005 graduate of Lipscomb University, earning a B.S. in Marketing/Management.  Prior to joining Avenue she worked as the retail coordinator at Belle Meade Country Club and was the owner of The Grove Boutique in Nashville, TN.

A graduate of Butler University (BS), Ashland University (MBA), and the College for Financial Planning (MFP), Bill Titus serves as Senior Vice President and Controller for the bank.  He has been a CPA since 1989 and has more than 20 years of experience in banking finance.  He is a member of the AICPA and Tennessee CPA Society.  Bill's hobby is watching Academy Award® nominated movies and he has seen every Best Picture winner in Oscar® history.

Kevin Mills

A native of Nashville, Kevin Mills is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State University (BUSLA in Business Education.) Kevin has over 17 years of experience in various areas of banking. He serves as Vice President with expertise in security, bank operations and facilities management. He is a current board member of his local church, is married to wife Jennie, and has three children. Kevin is a singer in the Avenue Bank Band, The Hummingbirds. He also traveled for numerous years with a southern gospel quartet.

April Britt

April Britt serves as Avenue Bank’s Learning Manager, and leads the company’s training and development initiatives. She previously served as our Cool Springs Branch Manager, and joined Avenue Bank in 2008 to lead the team opening that location.

She has twelve years of banking experience, and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Memphis. April is an active volunteer and fundraiser for the March of Dimes, serves on the Music City Division’s Board of Directors.  April has been a family team leader for their March for Babies campaign for 5 years, raising more than $10,000 for this organization.  She recently joined the Board of Directors for the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD). She also volunteers as a Budget Coach for the Nashville area Habitat for Humanity and is a member of CABLE and Brentwood Toastmasters.

Andres Tapia

Andres Tapia is our Bank Support Manager.  He has eight years of banking experience which includes service at Union Planters Bank and Regions Bank.  He has a Masters in Business Administration from Belmont University and a Bachelors Degree in International Business from Stephen F. Austin State University.  He is an active member in the Kiwanis Club of Nashville and serves on the advisory board for the Massey School of Business. He is married and has two children.  He enjoys the outdoor activities, cooking and golf.

Rich Roddy

Rich Roddy is a Nashville native who graduated from Western Kentucky University.  Rich serves as Vice President and Director of Electronic Payments and Treasury Management Operations.  He has over 15 years of banking experience and is an expert in his field. Brian Bechard

A gradute of Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire with a Masters Degree in Computer Science, Brian serves as IT Manager for Avenue Bank.  He has 20 years experience in the IT field with 5 of those being in banking.  Brian has a wide variety of hobbies including volleyball, chess, fantasy football, guitar  and hockey, just to name a few.  

Tonia DuBose Davis

A graduate of Williamson Christian College, Tonia Davis serves as the Assistant Manager for Banking Operations at Avenue Bank. With more than 12 years of banking experience, 10 of which have been in operations, Tonia joined Avenue almost three years ago from First Tennessee Bank in Memphis. Tonia serves as a leader of a local church where she and her family are partners. She resides in Smyrna with husband Kevin and their three children. She is responsible for coordinating activities and efforts to support the bank's Pencil Partner, Smithson Craighead Academy.

Santi Tefel

Santi is a Private Client Banker at our West End location. He joined Avenue Bank in 2008 as a Concierge Banker at the opening of the West End branch.

In 2009, Santi was selected in the inaugural group of Nashville's Top 30 Under 30, honoring Nashville’s young philanthropists, sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He was a 2010 participant in the Young Leaders Council and serves on the YLC Board of Directors. In March 2012 Mayor Karl Dean appointed Santi to the Metro Nashville Arts Commission. Santi also serves on the ‘Young Leaders Board’ for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

He is involved with Conexion Americas as a volunteer financial counselor and translator.

In his free time, Tefel enjoys playing tennis and golf and is an artist. His contemporary paintings were recognized for 3 consecutive years in the Arts & Business Council’s ArtWorks event as “Most Creative.”

He is a graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama where he graduated with degrees in Economics and Finance. Santi played collegiate tennis at Spring Hill and was the team captain his senior year. Prior to joining Avenue Bank he was an Ambassador at Great Florida Bank in Miami.

Laurie Malone joined Avenue in August 2008 as a Concierge Banker. Opal Haub

Opal serves as Senior Vice President, Relationship Manager, and Director of the bank's Residential Construction Lending group.   She comes to Avenue with better than 20 years of Residential Lending experience.  Previously Mrs. Haub served as Senior Vice President with Regions Bank and before that served as Vice President with Bank of America.  In her role as a Residential Relationship Manager she earned excellence awards as a member in the President’s Club and Chairman’s Club of the home division.  Opal loves to spend time with her family and enjoys traveling the United States.  She is an avid animal lover, with four dogs included as family members.

Dan Neumann

Dan Neumann is a Vice President and Commercial Credit Underwriter for Avenue Bank's Residential Construction Lending.  Prior to joining Avenue, Dan worked as an underwriter for both Union Planters and Regions Bank, in Nashville. He is a graduate of the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL, where he received a BA in Finance and played on the football team. He is married to wife Megan, and has two children.

Jeremy Yeagle

A native of Jacksonville, FL, Jeremy Yeagle is a graduate of the University of the South (Sewanee), with a B.A. in Economics and Psychology. He was a member of the original founding team for Avenue Bank, and currently serves as Vice President, Credit Strategy Manager in the Commercial Banking group. He has experience in Large Corporate and Middle Market banking, including the healthcare arena. Jeremy is an outdoor enthusiast, with interest in skiing, fishing, and hiking.

Allan Joiner

Allan Joiner has 18 years of banking experience and is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration.  He currently serves as Senior Vice President of Middle Market Banking.  Allan has worked with non-profits such as United Way and Junior Achievement, coached numerous youth sports teams and served as an Adjunct Professor at Belmont University.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Nashville and is a golf enthusiast.  He is married to wife Lana and has two children.

Seth Butler

With a BA in Mathematics and BA in Economics from Emory University, Seth Butler serves as Senior Vice President and Relationship Manager for Commercial Real Estate banking. He has 14 years of banking experience, the last nine of which have been dedicated to the Nashville Commercial Real Estate market.

Richard Bynum

Originally from Texas, Richard is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University (BBA, Management). He has more than 15 years banking experience and serves Avenue Bank as a Vice President, Consumer and Small Business Credit Manager specializing in Small Business and Retail Lending. Prior to joining Avenue in July 2007, Richard served in various credit capacities at Regions Bank and in Retail/Branch Management at Washington Mutual. He is married to wife, Rhonda and has two children. Richard is an avid sports and music fan and in his spare time enjoys playing softball, golf and attending concerts.

Carol Titus

Carol Titus has more than 20 years of banking experience, and is a healthcare and commercial banker with Avenue.  Prior to joining Avenue Bank in 2008, Mrs. Titus was a Senior Vice President with Regions Bank and has served in executive roles with First Union and Bank One. She is active in Habitat for Humanity, Leadership Middle Tennessee, and the St. Thomas Foundation.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of the South, a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University and has studied abroad at Oxford University in England.

Brendan Farran

A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Brendan is a graduate of Furman University (B.A. Psychology) and Colorado State University (MBA). Brendan is a Relationship Manager specializing in Commercial Real Estate. He joined Avenue Bank in February, 2008 as a Credit Underwriter. Prior to coming to Avenue, Brendan worked as a retail and business banker in Nashville. Brendan and his wife, Nicole enjoy running, travel and golf.

Bill Goodman

A graduate of Virginia Tech (BS) and the University of Richmond (MBA), Bill Goodman serves as a Senior Vice President and is the Senior Relationship Manager for Commercial Real Estate banking. With more than 25 years of commercial real estate lending experience in the Nashville area, Bill is considered one of the most seasoned and knowledgeable CRE lenders in the market.

Lisa Meiers Smith

A Nashville native, Lisa Meiers is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Advertising. She serves as Director of Marketing and has more than 20 years experience in her field. She serves on the Board of Directors for CABLE, a professional women’s networking organization. She enjoys reading, movies and dining out at local chef-owned restaurants.

Mallory Bishop

Mallory is a member of the Avenue Bank West End team. She is a native of Knoxville, TN and is a recent graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where she earned a Bachelor in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. She is an avid golfer who played on the MTSU golf team and served as co-captain of the team in her senior year. In addition to golf, Mallory also enjoys cooking, baking, and walking.

Pete Wooten

Pete Wooten is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Finance and Economics. He joined Avenue in April 2007, and brings more than 25 years of diversified commercial banking and management experience to his role as Director of Commercial Banking.

He is active in coaching youth sports and has served on the boards of a number of organizations including Junior Achievement and has served on the advisory board of Kraft CPAs. Paul is the Client Services Manager at our Cummins Station location and has 4 years of experience in financial services, having previously worked at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. He is a graduate of UT-Knoxville with a B.S. in Business Administration/Finance.  Paul serves as a member of the Southeastern Young Alumni Association (SEYA), becoming a board member in March 2011.  He is also a member of Toastmasters, a member of the Downtown Partnership and has coordinated fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association.  He enjoys soccer, snowboarding and tennis and is a world traveler, having been to 12 different countries.

Sandra Norton

Sandra is our Construction Loan Assistant with over thirty-three years in the banking industry.  Prior to joining Avenue, Sandra worked for Lasalle, Fifth Third, Suntrust and most recently Integra Bank where she served as Commercial Real Estate Services Manager.  She served fourteen years years as Treasurer for her church and three years as President of the Women’s Missionary Society.  A Nashville native, Sandra and her husband Johnny, love spending time with their two children and two grandchildren.  In her free time she listens to sports talk radio and enjoys discussing Titans football.

Jeff Robertson

Jeff works with Avenue Bank's accounting team to maximize the company's funding and investment portfolios. He previously served as Commercial Deposit specialist, working with individuals and companies to build the bank's deposit portfolio.  Jeff joined Avenue Bank in February, 2008, and previously was a Retail Banking Specialist. His prior career experience includes managerial sales positions for companies including Lowe's, where he managed the Specialty Sales division.

Mr. Robertson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Service Management from the University of Tennessee.  He earned a Masters in Business Administration from Belmont University in 2010.

Durham Pettigrew

Durham is a Credit Analyst in the Underwriting group, and most recently was a Concierge Banker in Green Hills. Prior to joining Avenue he was a Mortgage Banker with Franklin American Mortgage Company.  He also held various positions with SunTrust Bank.  He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He is also pursuing his Masters in Business Administration from Belmont University.

Theresa is one of the team that has been with Avenue Bank since day one.  She began her career in banking fourteen years ago at Nations Bank which was later re-named Bank of America.  She continued on to Regions Bank before she joined the Avenue Bank family in 2007. Pamme is a Nashville native, and has worked in banking for more than 20 years. She joined Avenue Bank in 2008, supporting the Commercial Real Estate group. In her free time Pamme enjoys reading, gourmet cooking and spending time with her 5 children and 10 grandchildren.

Jenny Mercer

Jenny is our Credit Administration Specialist with more than seven years in the banking industry.  Prior to joining Avenue Bank Jenny served as Commercial Loan Support Specialist at Bank of Nashville and Practice Coordinator at Ameriprise Financial.  Jenny attended Lambuth University and Covenant College. In her free time she enjoys time with her family, hiking and traveling.

Alex Arakelian

Alex Arakelian is a Concierge Banker at the West End location.  She has 3 years of banking experience.  She received her B.A. degree in English literature from Rhodes College in Memphis.
